Connect devices on the move
As Cellular IoT devices and connectivity decrease in cost and increase in efficiency, organizations are moving beyond asset location tracking into deriving benefit from data about the asset. Here’s where Cellular IoT can help.

DashboardDevice tracking
Cellular IoT delivers the reliable connectivity in the $5B asset tracking industry needed to track assets anywhere across the globe – from trucks and cargo ships through POS devices and bicycles.
Safety
Cellular IoT is an ideal solution for sensors that are used to improve safety of assets in the workplace or with consumers. For example, Hologram customer Cowboy installed sensors on their bicycle fleet that detect when a crash occurs, an alert is sent directly to the Cowboy network to the rider to see if they are ok.
Device fleet management
Full visibility into device activity is essential to meet customer expectations for non-stop service, like in remote patient monitoring. The ability to provision and update Cellular IoT devices remotely with zero customer involvement or Wi-Fi connection, helping to streamline operations and lower costs.
Predictive maintenance
Get real-time visibility into condition and usage data to conduct preventive maintenance and extend your device life. Cellular IoT-powered sensors collect data about temperature, vibrations, pressure, noise, or other elements depending on the asset. This data is then fed into predictive data models and AI tools to determine when the machine may fail.
Theft detection
Cellular IoT enables assets to always be online. The combination of connectivity and GPS coordinates enables companies to track assets and detect out of the ordinary activities. Stolen assets can be located or deactivated.
FAQs
What’s the value of having both Cellular IoT and Bluetooth for my devices?
For many customers, the combination of Bluetooth and Cellular IoT gives them the local and global connectivity they need. Cowboy, a bicycle rental company and Hologram customer, describes how they use Bluetooth connectivity to enable riders to unlock the bicycle and see live data from their mobile device. Cowboy then relies on Hologram’s Cellular IoT connectivity to run the service globally, with no reliance on the rider for device connectivity or data. They are also able to manage the asset with Hologram’s Cellular IoT service, like tracking the bike and detecting any safety incidents.
How do I know what hardware and connectivity solution is best?
One of the first steps in building an IoT device starts with selecting the right development hardware and modem. There are so many brands and options to select from that it can be difficult to know where to begin. We’ve found that there are some questions you should ask to narrow down your choices and ensure that you select the right IoT hardware for your device.
Can you tell me more about the difference between designing a prototype and designing for operations?
Building an IoT device isn't just about its features today, but how it'll perform in the years to come. If you don't plan well, the device might be challenging to update, become obsolete sooner, and put users at risk of security compromises. That's where a "design for operations" approach is valuable. It shifts our focus from the present to prepping our device for real-world curveballs. Learn more about this approach from our CTO, Pat Wilbur.
“Whether the customer is in Fiji or India, we can ship them a device, they power it up and it’s online. . .I’d recommend Hologram both for their platform and their people.”
