How Outage Protection works

Run on two mobile cores

Outage protection adds a multiple, fully independent mobile cores to your Hyper SIM. Each core reaches the internet on its own path, so a failure in one does not take your device offline the way a single-core SIM does.

  • Multiple independent mobile cores
  • No single point of failure
  • Works on one Hyper SIM

Switch cores automatically

When a carrier goes down, the SIM moves your device to a backup core on its own. Your team has nothing to monitor and nothing to switch by hand.

  • Automatic fallback to backup profiles
  • Keeps devices online where IMSI switching cannot

Your questions, answered

What is Outage Protection for IoT?

Outage Protection is Hologram’s 99.95% uptime SLA for enabled Hyper SIMs. It’s delivered by fallback, so when a mobile core stops working, the SIM switches to a second core on its own. Two independent cores on one SIM connect through separate paths, so if the primary fails, software falls back to the second core. Available on contracted accounts.

How does Outage Protection work?

Hyper SIMs hold multiple mobile cores. Each core reaches the internet on its own path, so the SIM has no single point of failure. If the primary core goes down, software falls back to the backup core on its own, and your device stays online through the outage.

Does roaming protect against network outages?

Roaming on its own does not protect against a core outage. Roaming lets a device use any of 550+ partner networks, but every one of those networks still runs through your primary core. If that core fails, roaming cannot help, so fallback switches the device to a second, independent core instead.

How is this different from a multi-IMSI SIM?

A multi-IMSI or eUICC SIM can switch between carrier profiles, but all of those profiles share a single mobile core. When that core goes down, none of the profiles can connect. Hyper SIMs switch on their own when a core stops working, and Outage Protection puts a 99.95% uptime SLA behind it.

How fast does it switch when a network fails?

The SIM watches the connection and falls back to the second core once an outage lasts past a short timer, so a brief blip doesn’t trigger a switch. No one has to step in, and the second core doesn’t depend on the failed network coming back.

Which networks and countries does it cover?

Hyper SIMs with Outage Protection connect across 550+ carriers in 190+ countries, all on one SIM. You manage your devices from one dashboard and push coverage changes over the air, with no SIM swaps. One global SIM covers your whole fleet, wherever your devices travel.

Is the 99.95% uptime really guaranteed?

Yes, the 99.95% uptime is a contractual commitment, not just a marketing figure. If an outage breaches that number, Hologram foots the bill rather than leaving you to absorb the cost

Is Outage Protection good for remote patient monitoring?

Yes, remote patient monitoring depends on continuous data, often from devices in rural or low-signal areas where one network can drop. Two independent cores give each device a backup path, so monitoring keeps streaming through a network failure. Healthcare customers like BlackBox rely on that reliability for high-stakes patient care.

Can it keep video telematics feeds from dropping?

Yes, cameras, alarms, and video telematics need steady bandwidth, and a dropped feed leaves a gap in coverage. When a network fails, fallback moves the device to a second core, so the video feed keeps running without interruption. Verkada used that flexibility to avoid downtime through AT&T and Verizon outages.
